In brief
The station was opened in 1852 at a slightly different location to the present station under the name of Stourbridge. The junction came when the Stourbridge Railway built their line towards Lye. It became a double junction when the Stourbridge Town branch opened in 1879. Service were diverted to Birmingham New Street in 1967, then back to Birmingham Snow Hill in 1995 following the opening of the Jewellery Line from Smethwick Galton Bridge. The station is home of social media sensation George the Stourbridge Junction cat.

Stourbridge Junction Station - history and details
The station was opened by the Oxford, Worcester and Wolverahmpton Railway as Stourbridge Station in 1852, at a slightly different site.

When the Stourbridge Railway built their line from Lye and beyond, the line became a junction.

It became a double junction in 1879 when the branch to Stourbridge Town was opened, it was at this time that the station was renamed from Stourbridge to Stourbridge Junction. The new station was 400 yards to the south of the original, and was opened in 1901.

In the 1960s the line from Birmingham Snow Hill to Smethwick junction was closed, this left to the line being redirected into Birmingham New Street from 1967.

The Jewellery Line was opened between Birmingham Snow Hill and Smethwick Galton Bridge in 1995, this led to the line being reconnected to Stourbridge Junction, and on towards Kidderminster and Worcester (Shrub Hill or Foregate Street).

There is no footbridge at the station, instead passengers have to change between platforms 2 and 3 via a subway.

The ticket office is at the far end of the subway, this is where you can now find the infamous George the Stourbridge Junction Station cat!

Platform 1 is exclusively for use of the Stourbridge Shuttle to Stourbridge Town.

Platforms 2 and 3 are used by the Snow Hill Lines between Worcester (Shrub Hill or Foregate Street), Kidderminster, Birmingham Snow Hill to either Whitlocks End and Stratford-upon-Avon or to Dorridge. There used to be a platform 4, this was taken out of use, and it now faces the car park.

There is a cafe between platforms 1 and 2.

The signal box was closed in 2012, train drivers of the Class 139 now use it.
